Le Chocolat du Bouchard – Naperville!

My first stop to check out the chocolate scene was Le Chocolat du Bouchard in Naperville.  What a wonderful timeless establishment.  They have 3 segments: A chocolate shop, a dessert cafe and a hot chocolate bar (which is in the cafe).

Chocolate Shop

The chocolate confections are from chocolatiers in Chicago, the US and even some from Europe.  I’m told the owners search for the best around and do change often. That means if you find something you like, buy it or check back often for the newest chocolates from all over. They don’t like to tell you who the chocolatiers are, but claim to have over 80 different chocolate makers goods present at any given time, which is quite impressive.

The chocolate shop side also has quite an extensive selection of baked goods, available for take-out (available in the cafe for sit down service).  These treats are made in-house by the bakery/cafe team.

I took a piece of the Death by Chocolate cake back to the hotel to try later and it was delicious.  Very dark chocolate rich and decadent. The cake was dense and the icing “sinful”.

Dessert Cafe & Hot Chocolate Bar

My favorite part of the experience was in fact the wonderful Hot Chocolate Cocoa!

I started with the Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate.  This is not your Mama’s Swiss Miss (which I also like). The chocolate itself was the perfect cream, chocolate, marshmallow blend. This creamy rich hot chocolate was overflowing with “mallow” whipped cream and a big toasted marshmallow.

I was told to get the “Mexicocoa” before I even got to Naperville and it did NOT disappoint.  It is their signature hot chocolate and had just the right amount of leche and cinnamon. Billed as “warming hearts and souls from the country of origin over 2000 years ago”.  If this is the way it tasted in Mexico back then, it’s no wonder it has survived different civilizations.
